How can I check if mobile phone is tapped ?

Is there a device that I can get to check. I read the previous postings of how long winded and difficult the process is and how the police needs permissions etc... . The country that I the phone is used is in Eastern Europe, where police can do pretty much everything and is protected by the government. So they don't have the same rights as in the US. Last week it turned out that they have been listening to hundreds of journalist phones.

You can't tell if they are tapping your mobile phone and have the cooperation of the wireless provider. Some cell phones have the capability to make the calls secure, called Voice Privacy, but that won't interfere with law enforcement. In your case, if privacy is a concern, get a throw-away cell phone, prepaid, or second one not in your name. Or use a payphone, if they have them there. :)
